we visited guatemala for a family holiday over christmas 2009. whilst we were there, we visited mayaworks, a cooporative which support women and men striving to improve their lives despite obstacles such as grinding poverty and illiteracy. mayaworks groups are organized in many guatemalan villages because of the considerable strengths of mayan women, their traditional weaving capabilities, their desire to learn modern business practices, and their determination to benefit their families and communities.
the group we visited showed us the village where they live, where they weave these wonderful products. they were extremely friendly and welcoming.
they handmake all the products and one of their ranges, florecita, has products for babies.
we have had delivery of the florecita range and hope that people love them as much as we do. they are beautifully made and the colours are viberate and i am sure your baby will love wearing them.
over the last couple of weeks, the women in the villages who made these lovely products have been very badly hit with the Pacaya volcano erupting and then within days hurricane Agatha causing severa damage to homes and flooding. our thoughts are with them.
